Anchor The Storm is a metal band that formed in 2020 during quarantine. We write music that is a bit technical, a bit intense, a bit heavy, and a whole lot driven by melodies. We’re influenced by everything we hear. From jazz, to 80’s pop, to 90’s alternative, and all the metal is written in between. We’re here to share a musical experience with you.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?
Our latest single Unleashed is about freeing yourself to become the best version of you. The track mixes alternative and metal music with jazz chords and some classical rhythms. Sounds strange, but it works! It’s available on all platforms and you can catch the video on YouTube.
WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?
Lots of changes in all of our personal lives over the last few years. Writing songs can be a form of self help. It’s helped us accept and make the most of our talents and opportunities. Unleashed reminds us to get out of our own way and do amazing things.
CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?
New phase of life. New purpose. New sound.
WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
In the last few years, Diamond Eyes by the Deftones, Language by The Contortionist, and Outlier by 12 Foot Ninja each in their own way had a huge impact on us. They are innovative, fascinating, and well written albums that tell stories, make us think, and have some intense musical moments that just stick with you.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
Our first video for What Remains was incredibly well done. Historically, the video for Black Hole Sun was captivating as well. Enemy by Sevendust is also an amazing story video.
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?
Listening to music, exercising, hanging with family, wishing we were making music.
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
It can be a real hassle when we are trying to get ready for a show and things we didn’t think of go wrong out of nowhere. It’s stressful to deal with and not the most fun thing at all. But when the lights on the stage come up and the show begins, it’s worth the trouble. Playing is an incredible gift that none of us take for granted and no amount of nerves or stress get in the way of making it something we live to do.
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
We met in quarantine and sent each other musical ideas over the internet and rehearsed when it was physically possible. We had to focus on making content online at the time. We are much happier playing shows and putting out songs and that’s where we’re at now. It’s a great time!
HOW DO YOU WRITE?
Os is the guy who tends to get the ball rolling musically. He also writes lyrics for the band. We all chip in and help the songs reach up to their full potential. This next batch of songs coming out soon is more collaborative in nature. We’re headed towards a more collaborative approach to the final versions of songs where we get together and jam out the ideas and make sure they feel good and rock hard live.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
We are inspired by making new sounds that make us think and feel new things. Writing is everything to us musically. Lyrically we are inspired by our life experiences and what it takes to survive them. We want to keep growing and sharing what we learn with everyone who vibes with it.
