VIDEO OF THE WEEK: TACHYS 'SIGNIFY'

After gaining a buzz with their first single “When The World Wakes Up”, with BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne calling the song “absolutely brilliant” and Under The Radar “an anthem for our times”, Tachys return with their second single “Signify”.

“Signify” is an eerie electronic pop song. The song deals with the relentless bombardment of stimulus we experience in our world, what that does to our minds and our calmness, and how we see ourselves. And that serves as kind of a backdrop to a more personal story in the song, of ill-fated decisions and the resulting consequences. The fine line between the dream state and reality can at times be quite grey. Sometimes life can feel like a waking dream, or like a double-dream with a false awakening. The dream only becomes comprehensible given the fuller perspective of life after you wake up, or maybe, the pictures never stop.

Tachys is a new duo consisting of Tobias Wilner (Blue Foundation, New York United, Ghost Society, Bichi) and Jonas Bjerre (Mew, Apparatjik). Equal parts pop and experimentation, their sound incorporates a unique blend of genres. With their catchy songwriting, Tachys uses their melodies as a guideline through a mix of modular synthesis exploration, quasi-psychedelic pop, synth/chillwave, and nostalgic swirling shoegazey guitars. It all progress into a blossoming dream-pop, filled with layers of textural electronics, catchy melodies and driving beats.

Having known each other since early childhood, Jonas and Tobias have often collaborated, crossing over into each other’s respective projects, but this is their first joint effort as a unit.

‘Signify’ was written and recorded by Tachys, mixed and produced by Tobias Wilner and mastered by Joe Lambert.
