"TOO ROMANTIC FOR INDUSTRIAL PEOPLE. TOO ROMANTIC FOR INDUSTRIAL PEOPLE" KOLLAPS DIG DEEP

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.

My name is Wade Black, I formed a band called Kollaps some years ago. It’s a harsh noise act that deals with varying themes revolving around love, sex, death, romanticism, violence, hatred and attraction – the sounds are harsh, abrasive and related to industrial music in various ways but ideas from other genres of usic are often borrowed. The band was formed in Australia but is now located both in Switzerland and Italy.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?

The new album is called Until The Day I Die and will be available in June via Cold Spring Records. We have recently released a single called “The Hand of Death” which was premiered through Decibel Magazine and can be heard on their website. The album itself is harsher than the previous ones and deals with various kinds of toxic relationships and is influenced heavily by romanticism, the roman catholic religion, fanaticism and sex.

WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?

The album was inspired by various things but central themes I’ve already mentioned above. A lot of what inspired the imagery and sound was my relocation from Australia to Switzerland; where I suddenly found myself surrounded by a lot of heavy catholic imagery which influenced me to use in the artwork and representation of the band. Mostly the album centers around toxic relationships with various things, situations or people, and the self and focuses on human nature and ideas of condemnation and redemption.

CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?

Too romantic for industrial people. Too industrial for romantic people.

WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY? Halber Mensch by Einsturzende Neubauten The Seer by Swans Antichrist Superstar by Marilyn Manson

All albums were utterly singular in their own right and to me felt like pursuits in art rather than pursuits

of fame and that is what I have always aspired to as a result of hearing these records.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?

I like a lot of low budget clips that have clever ideas.

WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC? I work a lot on booking tours for other bands but in my more leisurely moments I enjoy watching films, reading books, or having dinner with friends or my wife. I also have two pet quails that I’m very fond of.

DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?

Generally, no.

HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?

With several other degenerate Australians. Over the years the project has combusted and reanimated itself until I managed to relocate to Switzerland and meet more like minded collaborators.

HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?

I write and produced the music alone in a self-constructed studio here in Lugano, Switzerland. Over the years I have aimed to have the project become more self-sufficient in terms of requiring less external factors like recording studios or mixing engineers. On the latest record, “Until The Day I Die”, myself and Kollaps as a band has achieved almost complete self-sufficiency

WHAT INSPIRES YOU? Life. Death. Heroin. Sex and strangulation.

WHAT IS NEXT? We have just released a new track called “The Hand of Death”, and will be releasing shortly a self produced video for “I Believe In The Closed Fist”. Both tracks are from the new record “Until The Day I Die” which will be available via Cold Spring Records during June. Preorders areavailable from the website. Lastly, we are also going on tour with Of The Wand & The Moon and Trepaneringsritualen in June where we will play a lot of eastern European countries as well as appear at Fusion Festival in Larz and Roskilde Festival in Denmark.
