Fred (vocals-guitar) : Hi ! We are ZOË, a hard rock stoner band from north of France. We are four, Holy, Clément, Aldo and Fred. The band exists for twenty five years and we recorded four LPs and perform many gigs mainly in France but also in Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands and Algeria.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?
Aldo (guitar) : “ Back into the Light ” is our fourth album. It’s an album that attests that ZOË is still alive. In recent years, a lot of problems could have caused the band to explode, but we’re still here “ZOË is Back Into The Light !”
WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?
Fred : Maybe I'm a psycho but sometimes I have voices in my head telling me to do this or don't do that. It's not a mental illness and I think a lot of people do that. But when this is combined with cold feelings, loneliness, loss of control of reality it's called schizophrenia. That's what inspired the single “Voices”.
CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?
Holy (drums) : Power, energy, sweat and all that shit that we have inside of us and wanted to let out.
WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
Aldo : The record that changed my life is “Let There Be Rock” from AC/DC. In 1981, I was 14 years old and I had never listened to such powerful guitars, such direct music and such an authentic voice. Hard rock not too produced with a huge dose of rock'n'roll and a lot of sincerity and a beautiful cover it was a message from the beyond “let there be rock” and since then I remained faithful to rock'n'roll !
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
Clément (bass) : We really like psychedelic video or funny ones, like Red Fang would do, The Bronx videos are really cool too, but we don't really have a favorite all together
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?
Clément : Reading for most of us, watching movies, going out, or playing video games for some, the “normal” kind of fun i'd say !
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
Aldo : I drink !
Holy : Oh no, but I drink too ! lol
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
Fred : Aldo and I formed the band in 1997. At this time, we played a kind of psychedelic seventies rock music. We used a lot of fuzz and wah-wah. I remember we listened Grand Funk all the time in Aldo's car. It took time to find our sound.
HOW DO YOU WRITE?
Clément : Usually Aldo or Fred comes in with a riff, or an idea and we build the rest of the songs together, everybody is involved but the core idea are from both guitar players.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Clément : Anything ! From others music to movies or books, we usually write with an intention, or thinking about stage, and then trying to get the vibe and writing right, and then we let Fred work on the lyrics.
WHAT IS NEXT?
Aldo : We hope to record a new album after this tour. Maybe the last baby of the beautiful ZOE, but for now we focus on the Back Into The Light Tour
