Danish rockers The KillerHertz talk about their new EP Innocent Sinners and which era had the best rock albums
The KillerHertz is a Danish Hard rock band from a small town near Copenhagen called Kastrup.
PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF. We are a hard rock band called The KillerHertz, with base in Kastrup outside Copenhagen, Denmark - the band was founded in March 2011 and we have two earlier releases: “Killer Anthem” from 2014 and “Mirrors Portrait” from 2017. The band consists of four members: Thomas Trold - Vocals and guitar Kent KillerHertz - Drums Jonas Roxx - Lead guitar Jakob Bo Nielsen - Bass
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM? The title is Innocent Sinners - it contains three original songs and a cover version by an old Danish band called Danseorkestret. Compared to our two earlier album releases, we wanted a different approach in releasing new material, with fewer numbers and more focus on music video releases, which will hopefully give us a more viral promotion to the process. So, we are very excited about this release. WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM? We had this in the making for some time, it’s been three years since our last release - so we thought the time was right for new release. CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS? We wanted to use time on fewer numbers instead of a full album, which normally contains about 10-12 songs - It gave us more time to focus on our sound, and on each number in particularly - such as adding more keys and gimmicks in the recording process, which gave it all a wider sound to the songs…and using more time on the sound mastering as well. WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY? It´s almost impossible to sum it up on one record - but what changed our lives to become musicians was mainly from watching MTV in the 80´s - You wanted to be a Rockstar, just by watching those videos at that time! Those days really had a significant impact and inspired us in wanting to play rock music
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
Our last music video “Ill addictive romance” from our new album, is definitely one of our favorites at the moment - so you might want to check it out.
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC? Mainly outdoor activities like sailing, cycling and gardening, sounds a bit dull, but we are old guys ha-ha. But It is both influential and inspirational, and it keeps you open minded.
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO, HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
You always have that fluttery feeling in the stomach, the adrenaline is high, maybe a little bit nervous, but not in a dominant way. Those feelings give you focus and used as tools to give you that high peak performance.
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
We were childhood friends who have had a break from the music scene due to family and kids…we came from different bands, such as Saturnus, Pitch Black and Morbid Vision, meaning we mostly played trash and death metal. But after a few years break we were eager to start a band together - and in the rock genre instead. There are only two members left from the starting period, Thomas Trold and Kent KillerHertz. The two new spots are now filled in with Jonas Roxx on lead guitar and Jakob Nielsen on bass.
HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGEHTER?
All song writing is done by Thomas Trold - the whole process is mostly done by Thomas Trold has an idea and we´ll then start adding some drums to it and see how that works. Afterwards would be adding all other instruments and giving everybody their opinion to the process. Sometimes the flow comes naturally, other times it needs a bit more work to the process. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Our inspirations thrive mostly through classic bands and artists from the 70´s, 80´s and 90´s, such as Megadeth, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Kiss, Motley, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Merciful Fate etc. - the era of that time has had a significant influence on all of us, some of the best albums are made in that period! And inspiration from everyday life in all its meaning, that’s what most of the lyrics are about - like love, expectations, breaking up, people in general, who we are and so on…Death, life and love are mainly the subjects through our songs, which most people can relate to. We´re a mix of new and old, as Rock Lifestyle describe us: “The KillerHertz is like Volbeat had a baby with Megadeth”
WHAT IS NEXT?
Well, we are always working on new material, but at the moment it´s all about rehearsals - we need to get in shape for the summer - Our EP-album Innocent sinners will be released the 29th of May, and we have music videos, with four releases within a month and a half of each other, which means releases in January, March, May and June this year, so still a lot to look forward to in the near future.
