The Reasons Why talk about their debut album
PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.
Hi we are Lach and Shev, and we are the rhythm section of the band The Reasons Why
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?
Our new album is called Decade. 10 great songs, mostly hard rock, the drums and the bass sound amazing on it!
WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?
Well, the band has been going for about 10 years and as this is our first full-length album, so some songs are from the beginning and some of them are quite new, so this album is really a mixed bag of everything we’ve done.
CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?
90s alternative with a twist of hard rock
WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
Lach: For me, it would have to be Good Riddance’s album ‘A Comprehensive Guide To Moderne Rebellion’. I got that album in high school and it changed my approach to music-making forever.
Shev: The Black Album by Metallica. This is the album that inspired me to start making music
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
My favourite Reasons Why clip would have to be the renegade film clip. We spent a day shooting it in a small factory and it was a heap of fun!
Foo Fighters ‘Everlong’ is also one of our favourite film clips. It's just a funny and clever clip!
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?
Shev: when I’m not making music, I’m working as a carpenter during the week and spend most weekends unwinding with a beer and the family
Lach: When I’m not making music, I’m renovating my house or having a beer at the beach.
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
We don’t really get nervous anymore, just excited to play our music for our fans. But if its a big show and the nerves do kick in, well its nothing a couple of beers can’t fix!
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
Shev: I met Scott 10 years ago in another band. He asked me to join him and Brodie
(ex guitarist/wranger) in the Reasons Why. The band started to take shape from there.
HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?
Scotty is the main songwriter. He usually brings an idea to practice, we jam it out a few times, make some fine adjustments, and by the end of the practice, we usually have a new song.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Shev: Music inspires me to make music
Lach: Playing with a bunch of rad dudes and awesome musos really inspires me.
WHAT IS NEXT?
Well, the album comes out on Tuesday, the 10th of November. Then once all of the restrictions lift, we plan on touring the album all over Australia and start working on our next album
