Q & A: RIVER STOLE GODS TALK ABOUT THE DARK SIDE

"In a holistic storyline over three songs, we tell the story of a man, who has simply set his priorities wrong in life and how this affects the rest of his life and beyond."

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.

Adam: We are “River Stole Gods” – in person it is Lasse (Vocals), Raphael (Guitar) and I (Bass) – and we play some Progressive Metalcore. We are from Düsseldorf, Germany, and have founded in 2019. We have released two EPs – “Sky Architects” and “Apparitions” – as well as our latest Single “Holding On” as the first chapter of a Single trilogy.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?

Adam: “Holding On” is the first song of our single trilogy “New Eyes”, dealing with false beliefs, death and relief. In a holistic storyline over three songs, we tell the story of a man, who has simply set his priorities wrong in life and how this affects the rest of his life and beyond.

WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?

Adam: Capitalism. Materialism. Basically the dark side of humanity.

CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?

Adam: A dark, yet relieving journey through life transferred in a hard hitting, energetic, captivating soundwave.

WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

Adam: For me it was “Lost Forever // Lost Together” from Architects. I loved the whole record: the heavy riffs, the meaningful and truthful lyrics and the amazing live performance of the album. This record inspired me to write songs, which have a serious impact on the community and are thought-provoking.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?

Adam: I really love the music videos from Animals as Leaders’ song “Monomyth”. It has such a mystical atmosphere and I adore the dancers’ costumes and performance very much.

WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?

Adam: Wandering through nature, eating, drinking coffee or doing sports. Enjoying the simple things in life.

DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?

Adam: No, surprisingly I rarely get nervous performing live, because I feel pure joy going on stage. But when doing so, I am eating and breathing my nervosity away.

HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?

Adam: When my previous band has split up, I was searching for some musicians who would start a metalcore project and in a music group at good old Facebook I stumbled over Raphael’s post, who had the same thought. We met up and immediately vibed with each other. In a few weeks, we wrote most of the songs on “Sky Architects” and thanks to the www, we found Lasse and the previous band members, so that we could start the band.

HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?

Adam: Raphael has become our key songwriter. In the early days, Raphael and I wrote songs together in the same room, but for the workflow’s sake, Raphael mostly writes a complete song structure on his own – he just has an incredible creative output – uploads it on the server, so that we can give it a listen and then, we test it in the rehearsal room. From there, Lasse and I put in our thoughts or impulses and finish writing our parts.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Adam: Other musicians and bands, art, books, gaming, travelling.

WHAT IS NEXT?

Adam: This Winter, we are going to release the next chapters of our single trilogy “New Eyes”, so keep your eyes and ears open for us!
