Introducing the French rock band
PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.
We are Flyingdeadman a post rock band from a small city (Bressuire) in the west of France. The band is about 15 years old but we play exclusively post rock music since 2011. We have released four Ep. If you’re into bands like Explosions in the sky, This will destroy you or Caspian maybe you could appreciate our music and our universe.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?
Our new Ep “The night” was released on November 2020. It’s our first Ep as a four piece band. Indeed we were only two in the band, Aurélien (guitar and Programmation and Fabien (guitar), for the three previous Eps. For this one Christophe (bass) and Damien (drums) have joined the band, it gives us a more natural sound I think, a little bit more groovy maybe.
Each songs tell one moment of a night, they are ordered with the time indicating when the action takes place. You’re invited to follow the progress of that night and what is happening there. It's a kind of cinematographical EP (but not a soundtrack of the movie)
WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?
All the Ep was created around the movie “The night of the living dead”. We extracted the dialogues from the movie to integrate them into the music.
CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?
It’s five movements, five feelings, five emotions, five atmospheres.
WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
Young Mountains by This will destroy you because there’s everything in this album (melodies, stunning atmospheres and so many emotions…)
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
Maybe our song “Barbara (3.33 AM)” that I realized without budget with my phone and using my girlfriend as an actress. It’s not a masterpiece but I like it
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?
Walking in nature, reading, and listening to music.
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
We’re always a little bit nervous before performing because we want to bring the audience into our universe and to please them, but as soon as we start it disappears. Sometimes one or two beers could help
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
The group was formed in pub drinking beers with friends, we all play alone at home and we decide to create a band to play together without really knowing what it was going to be like. With time and lot of work, it became more a passion.
HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?
I write the song alone with my guitar and my computer and when the song is nearly finished I submit it to the whole band to have their feeling. Then we can start playing it together and modify some parts if necessary.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Movies inspire me a lot but mostly what happen in my life but also in everyone's life.
WHAT IS NEXT?
We plan to release a new Ep in maybe one or two years, we will take the time to work on it, we’re not eager to do it. Some things take time. We work the songs we use to play live to be ready as soon as we can be authorized to be back on stage.
