Q & A: ETERNAL CLOSURE

Fancy some melodic metalcore from Quebec - of course you do!

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.

Hey! We're Eternal Closure from Montreal,Quebec. We're a Progressive Melodic Metalcore band that blends old-school Metalcore like As I Lay Dying with modern Prog like Periphery. We're a fun bunch that likes to play heavy tunes and pet cats (especially that last part).

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?

I don't know when this will be online but on October 23rd we're releasing “Color of Our Fears: Rediscovered” which is a re-release of our second album with 3 new tracks. We've re-recorded the vocals with our new vocalist (Maggy) to give people a taste of what's to come. On the same day we're also releasing a music video for “The Slave or the Owner”. It's a bit goofy just like us haha.

WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?

“Color of Our Fears” was really us trying new things while at the same time trying to focus what the sound of the band should be. As far as lyrics go, most of the album deals with fear and what it takes to overcome it.

CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?

Heavy, Emotional, Intense, Interesting, Catchy, Miaow.

WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

Personally, the record that got me (Olivier) into heavy music was “Hybrid Theory” by Linkin Park. I remember listening to “Crawling” and thinking it was the heaviest thing haha.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?

I don't really focus on music videos but I thought that Architect's new video for “Animals” was especially well shot. For us, I really like our video for “Defying Gravity” and of course the new one for “The Slave or the Owner” is a lot of fun.

WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?

We're all relatively chill people. Not really the big rockstar lifestyle haha. Gaming, watching some TV and sharing the occasional cat meme. But music is a huge part of our schedule.

DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?

Not that much really. We've had rough performances so many times in the past (in the beginning especially) that I'm really not afraid of making mistakes anymore haha. When something goes really wrong of course I get stressed out but that's not something I worry about before going in. I control what I can and leave the rest.

HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?

Just a typical group of friends having fun. However, the project got more and more serious with time and with that comes the inevitable member changes. I'm the only remaining original member but the project only got serious when Jonathan came in.

HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?

I write most of the music but I take into account what I think the bandmates would want to play/hear. And of course after a draft of a song has been made we all work together to make it the best it can be. For lyrics the task is shared. I write a lot of them but other members contribute too.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Listening to music and watching movies. When I hear something great I almost get mad that I didn't think of it before. I then try to make it my own and improve on it. A healthy “competitive” mindset I think everyone should have.

WHAT IS NEXT?

We're now focusing on promoting “Color of Our Fears: Rediscovered”. We're also writing new material for an upcoming album and I feel like the material is really strong.
