POP ROCK INDIE ARTIST MAIDON TALKS TO US ABOUT HIS MUSIC

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM

We are planning to put together all the ten tracks already published into a proper album. As you know, in the current times where digital platforms distribute and sell music the concept has changed, there are more releases of EP’s and singles that albums.

We released our last single (Don’t Do This to Me) a few weeks ago - on 17 January. It is a powerful and catchy tune with a killer chorus - it is performing very well so far with 30K+ streams on Spotify in 5 weeks.

HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT THE SONGWRITING PROCESS?

I normally write music in the first instance and just focus on coming up with a really good thing. When I hum and sing nonsense to find a melody I sometimes say something with sense and on a few occasions I have included that idea on the lyrics content. However, as I said music comes first for me and then I try to write the right lyrics.

WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM?

Nothing in particular, each song has a different story and it is just the need to write music what inspires us.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TRACK?

It’s difficult for us to pick a song when we consider that there are several powerful singles here. Nevertheless, a very special song is ‘Outer Space’, its structure, its melody and the children choir with a final tribute to David Bowie make this track unique.

WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES?

Musical influences come mainly from the 80’s and 90’s. British and American great pop & rock bands and artists have been the base of our music. Bowie, U2, Stone Roses or Radiohead to name a few, are a model for us. If you put all that music in a blender along with more modern sounds you will get Maidon’s music as a result.

WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE?

The music from the 70’s and 80’ I discovered when I was just a kid is what really changed my life. Then “Achtung Baby” from U2, “Dog Man Star” from Suede, and “Ok Computer” from Radiohead literally blew my mind.

WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING IF YOU DIDN'T MAKE MUSIC?

I have always been a music lover and when I discovered that I was able to write songs it dragged me straight away into music as a natural thing and as a vital need as well. Honestly, I cannot think of a life not being into music.

WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO RECORD ONE OF YOUR SONGS, AND WHICH ONE?

I would like to gather the most relevant musicians of the British music to sing the different lines in “Outer Space”. This track is tribute to David Bowie and it would be awesome if all those artists could take part in something like that.

HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?

After taking some time off music I felt the need to go back into it. I was lucky enough to have a period of substantial creativity and in 2017 I decided to start this new project called Maidon. Everything started to roll when I managed to get on board guitarist and arranger Ivan Pela – a long-term music partner with whom I have been working on and off.

Maidon is singer-songwriter Aldan Torres with close collaborator and arranger Ivan Pela in leading.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ANYONE STARTING OUT?

If you like what you do and you think that it is good, go ahead and don’t let anyone stop you from creating and putting your music out there.

WHAT IS NEXT?

The plan is very clear, we would like to thrive in this business and end up being able to make a living in music. We are going to carry on writing songs, working properly to get an even better sound and trying to reach as many people as possible.
