NEW MUSIC: IFREANN Q & A

HI THERE THANKS FOR ANSWERING SOME QUESTIONS FOR US.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM

Our new EP ‘Desecration’ is four tracks of fast, heavy & unrelenting Thrash Metal, with elements of Groove, NWOBHM & Death.

HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT THE SONGWRITING PROCESS?

The songs are adaptations of demos that the band had written a few years ago. While some core riffs remain the same, they’ve been molded by the band as a collective and have their own identity since they were first written.

WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM?

We had some tracks that we felt fit well together, and thought it would be a better idea to release them all as an EP instead of having them on an album next to tracks that they might not fit with.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TRACK?

Either Raised In Hate because it goes down so well live, or Messiah because it’s the newest one and I’m sick of it the least.

WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES?

Musically speaking, I’d say some mix between Testament, Death, Iron Maiden, Exodus & Iced Earth

WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE?

Personally, that would be Iron Maiden’s self titled debut. It was the first metal album I ever owned and I listened to the hell out of it when I was 10.

WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING IF YOU DIDN'T MAKE MUSIC?

Definitely still something music related, maybe on the business side like band/tour management.

WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO RECORD ONE OF YOUR SONGS, AND WHICH ONE?

We’re not fussed about who records a song, as long as it comes out sounding killer. And ideally all of our recent batch of songs.

HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?

In summer 2015, myself (Euan) and our bassist Jacob were in a band that had just fallen apart, and from that we formed Ifreann. We had two different guitarists before our vocalist Ian joined in early 2016. We played our first live show in early 2017, and our current line up was integrated in late 2018.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ANYONE STARTING OUT?

Don’t just form a band with your mates if they aren’t skilled/creative/committed enough, they will just waste your time. Don’t rush into playing live, work on your collective songwriting, and make sure you have a tight setlist.

WHAT IS NEXT?

We have a very busy 2020 planned. LOTS of touring. We can’t wait. Like us on Facebook to keep up with everything that’s going on.
