IRISH SINGER SINEAD O' CONNOR HAS DIED AGED 56




Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor has died at the age of 56.


She was best known for her single Nothing Compares 2 U, released in 1990. the song was written by Prince and brought her worldwide fame. Despite the acclaim, the Grammy Award winner stood up as an activist, creating controversy about her social and political views, including making headlines in 1992 when she tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II on US TV show Saturday Night Live.


During her career she was a pioneer or genre-blending, experimenting with different styles from jazz to musical theatre.


Sinéad had struggled with mental health issues for many years and was still grieving after the death of her son Shane last year.


She will be remembered for her once-in-a-generation vocals, her passion, activism, and fighting spirit.


The cause of her death has not been announced.
