INTRODUCING: SUBLIMINAL LANDMINES

" It (the virus) gave us time to really dig in and get the record sounding the way that we wanted it to"

Subliminal Landmines are a punk band from Lafayette, Louisiana and have just released their debut album #Gibberish.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM?

Our new album 'Gibberish' covers all the bases when it comes to anger, sadness, loneliness, emptiness and even the thoughts that run through your head when you think you might be insane. It's also about learning to be ok with all of those things and to accept yourself for who you are. We recorded it with Leedrumalot Media and our buddy Dylan Frederick mixed/mastered it for us. It was released on October 31, 2020 so you can stream/purchase it anywhere you would like.

WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM?

The album was mainly inspired by personal human emotion based on past experiences and how to cope with it all. Since we didn't get to play any shows this year because of the virus, what better opportunity than to write, record, and release a full-length album. It gave us time to really dig in and get the record sounding the way that we wanted it to.

CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?

Bipolar and Random

WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

Grant - The record that really changed my life would have to be 'American Idiot' by Green Day because it was the first album I had ever heard by them. The second I got to listen to the album, I just knew that I wanted to write and play music like that one day. You can tell from our songs that there is a pretty heavy Green Day influence that is present.

Lee- Blink 182 -enema of the state. I bought this record in 99 when it came out, soon was my favourite band of all time. Also introduced me to Travis Barker, by far the biggest influence of my playing. To this day that record still holds up.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST? WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?

Grant - My favourite video filmed by us is definitely the video for "Where's My Coke?". We were able to get it done the right way and it was a memorable experience for all of us. As for my favourite music video from another artist, I would have to say "Longview" by Green Day. It's in your face and it jams and it just makes you want to watch it again. If I weren't making

music I would probably just be working my day job, doing everything that I do now except with more video games involved. Of course, though I would probably be listening to even way more music than I already do (and that's a lot).

Lee- Favorite music video would be "gone" by Coldrain. There are just some phenomenal cinematic/visual moments in there. Not sure how much it cost to make, but it is impressive. Only thing I do outside of music is work. But I got headphones in the whole time. The only way I can make it as a delivery driver!

DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?

No, none of us gets nervous before we are about to go on. We just want to have fun with the crowd and don't worry about all of the other stuff. If we know that someone is there to specifically watch and judge us (famous musician, talent scout, label, etc) then we may get a tad nervous but after we start playing all of that goes away because we get pumped up and our adrenaline starts flowing.

HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?

It all started when Grant dropped out of college and wanted to get a band started to fill his free time. He and his friend Zach went post fliers all around Lafayette looking for a bass player and a drummer. They got it up and going but had to go through some member changes but here we are today with a self-record demo, and EP, and a full-length studio album available!

HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?

Usually what happens is Grant or Chris writes the guitar and vocals for the songs and then based on what they wrote, then Lee and Chris write the drums and bass the song. Then we all brainstorm together on things we maybe need to add or take away based on how it sounds as a whole.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

What inspires us is to just live life to the fullest, have fun, write and play music, and just not care what anyone thinks. As long as we are doing what we love to do and keep making music, we will be able to stay inspired.

WHAT IS NEXT?

We are currently planning our tour in 2021 while promoting our new album 'Gibberish' and hope to maybe even release some new music soon!
