My name is Alex, I’m a musician and composer. I have over 15+ years of experience in performance with various musical acts, producing music, and composing music. I'm the owner, operator, and head engineer of my own recording studio.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?
My new album “anewworld,” will be released February 14th, 2023. It is my first mixtape of original music in over 2 years. I’m very excited for people to hear this new mixtape of original lo-fi tracks I’ve made.
WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?
I knew I wanted to write a new record and had a few songs I wanted to put on it as well, but I basically had to write 5 more songs and didn’t feel inspired. I was playing a game a few weeks ago called “Subnautica” and was just completely immersed in its universe. It felt like I was in “a new world,” hence why I titled the record as such. It inspired me to immediately start writing new music. I highly recommend the game!
CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?
Relaxing, emotionally powerful, hopeful.
WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
I’m not sure I could pinpoint a single record that changed my life, but one that comes to mind is Mutemath’s self-titled record. I used to listen to that album over and over when I was in high school and I loved it. It used to make me think to myself “yeah, I could do this,” and really inspired me to take my music practice more seriously, and start a band myself.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
The music video for Radiohead’s Daydreaming is one that stays with me. The editing and the film work is beyond phenomenal.
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?
In my free time I like to spend time with my partner, my family, and enjoy watching football on television.
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
Sometimes yeah! I think it’s a normal emotion. Nowadays I don’t really get nervous before gigs, however. I guess with time and doing it so often you kinda block out the listeners.
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
Out of boredom honestly. I wanted to create a “diary” for myself. It evolved into a full musical project that I now quite enjoy.
HOW DO YOU WRITE?
I do all of my songwriting, producing, and engineering by myself 100%. I usually don’t try to force creativity, I try to let it naturally flow with this music, which is why sometimes I’ll go months without writing anything.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Life, friends family. Really just whatever’s going on in the moment. That’s what this musical project has always been about for me, keeping it more open-ended and based on how I’m feeling at the time. I would say most artists are inspired this way whether or not they realize it.
WHAT IS NEXT?
After this new record comes out I’ll be continuing my “Live loop” series on my YouTube channel and continue to write new music!
