PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR US WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOU AND YOUR MUSIC AND TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.
Alex_Y: “Hi, everyone! Our name is Arctic Dreams. At the moment we are scattered all over Europe, but we decided to be based in Belgrade, Serbia. It's hard for us to define the style of our music, we call it "arctic-dreams-metal", our tracks are based on different styles of metal, dark electro and classical music.”
Sydius: “I play guitars, raised in the Zappa-oriented style of “freaking out” I find eclectic music the most interesting. Arctic Dreams is not freaky eclectic, it’s a kind of holistic genre built of different variable elements. That fits my type”
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM OR SINGLE?
Alex_Y: “Our album is like a long-awaited baby. It just so happens that we started working on it in 2014. We quickly figured out the rhythm section and then started the long journey of finding our own sound and concept, which took us 6 years, in the end we came back to it fully only in 2020. This time was needed to finally form the material which was finally released”
Sydius: “It’s common today to use virtual synthesizers for choirs and orchestral instruments, it’s not worth recording everything live. It is an arranger’s luxury. What we’ve done - is a challenge. ”
WHAT INSPIRED THE ALBUM OR SINGLE?
Alex_Y: Since I am a composer of music and lyrics, I can say that I am inspired by completely different things: from my dreams to the plots of famous movies and computer games.
Sydius: Art and music represents global cultural, historical and philosophical ideas and paradigms. This art theory inspires a lot. And all this mass of complicated knowledge stands behind your creativity no matter what. Even if you haven’t read a single book and play dumb primitive beats.”
CAN YOU SUM UP THE ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?
Alex_Y: “The Magic Force of The Music”
Sydius: “Just a glimpse of the first step”
WHAT RECORD CHANGED YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
Alex_Y: “In my case, it completely changed my understanding, vision and approach to writing, recording and producing music. I had the opportunity to do a lot of experimentation with sound and had a tremendous amount of experience.”
Sydius: “Paganini caprices - they got me into classics. Chick Corea with Bobby McFerrin - got me into jazz. Pink Floyd, the Wall - into rock. ”
Glam_Dickens: “That was not even an album, that was just a song... It was KISS 'Detroit Rock City', I was shocked by the energetic and aggressive drums! So, for me it was KISS.”
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO FILMED BY YOUR BAND OR ANOTHER ARTIST?
Alex_Y: “ Yes of course, we are happy to present you our first official video for the fourth track from the album "The City Built on Bones". You can check it out on our YouTube channel.
Our story began in St. Petersburg and in this track and video we decided to tell about the bloody history of this city, covering the time period from the Decembrists uprising to the blockade of Leningrad. We invested a lot of energy and resources into this video and we kind of succeeded in conveying this atmosphere.”
Sydius: “I have a tendency to save everything in different folders, bookmarks, notes, playlists. I have a whole playlist with inspiring music video regardless of the music. For wxample, Little Big. It’s the music that isn’t complete without videos. I love the golden era of first music videos. Like Queen videography.”
WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WHEN YOU'RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?
Alex_Y: “I do a lot of things besides music. One of my hobbies is building recording studios. Designing studio spaces, researching the acoustic properties of different materials and the building itself is quite a fascinating activity.”
Sydius: “ Studying something. So many things can capture your life. Physiology or Calculus.”
Glam_Dickens: “Just living this life out! Walking the streets, riding bicycle, hanging out in pubs or just chilling.”
DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING LIVE, IF SO HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT?
Alex_Y: “Yes, of course. At such moments I just remember what I had to go through to achieve it, and immediately all the stress disappears.”
Sydius: “ There’re books on-stage confidence. I didn’t read them. Sometimes. So many terrible things occurred in public - that’s the best way to stop worrying. Everything had happened. Nothing worse can.”
Glam_Dickens: “Not at all. Only if something goes wrong with the gear.”
HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?
Alex_Y: “Our story began back in 2009, when I moved to St. Petersburg and met Igor. We met and started rehearsing first at my place, and then we found the rest of our first bandmates and started to grow.”
Sydius: “Alex needed a guitarist. I came to meet him and to listen to demos. Suddenly felt unwell with the flu and he let me stay and have a nap to feel better. And I stayed for a week - involved with working with the music.”
HOW DO YOU WRITE? - DO YOU HAVE A KEY SONGWRITER, OR DO YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER?
Alex_Y: “At the moment I am the author of all the music and lyrics. Perhaps in the future, this approach will change.”
Sydius: “ I suggest Alex my ideas with hypnosis through space.”
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Alex_Y: “I am inspired by strong stories or events from history and life that evoke ambiguous emotions. As a rule they are not positive emotions.”
Sydius: “Ideas - for conceptual profound creation from inside. Social, psychological, scientifical etc. And music parts and details in particular.”
Glam_Dickens: “Everything... people, art, music, architecture, events, etc.”
WHAT IS NEXT?
Alex_Y: “New ideas, new tracks, new videos, new gigs. “And the Agony has Started" presents the material which was composed quite a long time ago and since then a huge amount of ideas have been accumulated. Believe us, we still have a lot to say))”
Sydius: “We die”
