"I LEARNED A LOT AT THE TIME" NATHAN MOORE TALKS BROTHER BEYOND AND LIFE AFTER POP

As lead singer of Brother Beyond Nathan Moore released several songs in the 80s "I Should Have Lied" and the Number 2 hit "The Harder I Try". Nathan went on to join World's Apart in the 90s and enjoyed further success in Europe. We caught up with Nathan ahead of his set at Rewind South.

So what can we expect from your set today?

NATHAN MOORE

Brother Beyond - the most well-known. And I finish up with a hit I had with my band World’s Apart, which everybody knows called 'Everlasting Love', which was a big hit in France.

How did you get into music?

NATHAN MOORE

I was in a band with my older sister Tina. When I was 17, she was 19. The band was called The Palm Tree Club. She inspired me and eventually, I joined her band. She was quite wild on stage, she would quite often take her clothes off. She was crackers, but people loved her.

You worked with David Was from Was Not Was. What was that like?

NATHAN MOORE

He heard our demos in the record company in America, this is before 'The Harder I Try'. He really liked our songwriting and wanted to produce us. We loved Was Not Was, so we said yes. He came over and we did four songs in the studio together. One of them, 'I Should Have Lied' became our first single. It was great, to work with him.

Did anybody give you any advice during your early years in the industry?

NATHAN MOORE

I don't know about that. I learned a lot at the time, be wise the money and all that, because I was never really wise. So after Brother Beyond I truly came out of it poor. Not a bean to my name, because we'd spent so much money and we already owed the record company about half a million pounds. You do a tour that sells out, but it costs so much to support that it didn't make any money. So for a while, you're very famous, but people think you're a millionaire. Life's fine now. Life's good. I live in North Lancashire and I like it there.

So what's next?

NATHAN MOORE

More gigs and shows in Germany with World's Apart. Monday to Friday I renovate houses with my wife and I have fun on the weekend doing shows like this.
