ALBUM REVIEW: LISSIE 'THANK YOU TO THE FLOWERS' EP

Thank you for the music

American singer songwriter Lissie has used the chaos and tragedy of the world to make an album that embraces hope and the power of femininity. Watching flowers grow and bloom in her garden during the Covid pandemic became a symbol comfort that invoked positivity. This inspired Lissie to turn towards the female artists she has embraced for their musical sanctuary as a "garden of beauty and resilience'. The result is a beautifully crafted selection of songs reinterpreted for 2020.

Martha Wainwright's 'Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole' is a personal and embittered track, bravely and fiercely covered by Lissie. The wounds of the opening song are quickly followed by the Miley Cyrus hit 'Wrecking Ball'. Lissie's mezzo-soprano vocal bringing extra power and vulnerability to the track. Paula Cole's 'Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?' is a welcome addition, being one of those songs that's not given much airplay, but one that's just as enjoyable as you remember it. Lissie's rendition. Lana del Ray's 'Change' is also a highlight that takes on many new levels given what's gone on around the world during this turbulent year and continues to over hope.

'Thank You To The Flowers' is a joyous celebration of life, love and triumph over adversity. and it couldn't come at a better time.
