PLASTIC AGE INTERVIEW

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM/ PROJECT?

We have a first album that came out last year. It's called Blood Red Roses and it was recorded within the Tambours du Bronx' studio, not far from Nevers. Now, we are working on a second album that is set to be released during September of 2020. So we can't really talk about it, it's still a work in progress, even if we play the future songs on stage for several months.

WHAT INSPIRED ANY CENTRAL THEMES ON THE ALBUM?

Our first album, Blood Red Roses holds references from many movies, in general. The cover is inspired by Sam Mendes' movie, American Beauty. Some tracks refer to Polanski, Snow White or the Black Mirror series.

Our songs talk about manipulation too, human behaviour, lies and alienation. You will be able to find these sources of inspiration and themes on the next album too. Also, there will be some songs talking about nowadays' situations.

HOW LONG DID YOU SPEND RECORDING?

Our EP was recorded in five days and our album in mostly one week, time added up together. We show up to the recording sessions with a precise idea of what we want and with everything known by heart so it doesn't take much time. What is time consuming is the mixing and trying new stuff suggested by the sound engineer.

HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT THE SONGWRITING PROCESS?

Apolline : I usually take a situation (real or fictive) and I write about it. I build my lyrics out of images, drawings ... it's really all movie related. And I always try to make them universal in order to let everybody have their own understanding of them and to let them identify themselves with the song.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE TRACK FROM THE ALBUM?

Apolline : My favourite track is the first one, Black Mirror, because I love the melody and the vocal harmonies and because it's borrowing the name if my favourite TV show.

Nicolas : The Fairest One of All is my favourite. I love playing it on stage and I find that it's very well written and arranged.

Gaëlle : I love all of them but the one that I prefer playing is Blood Red Roses. There are some different sections making us all having our moment of glory before ending it all together in a complete mess.

WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES?

We are influenced by many bands as : Pixies, The Hives, The Kinks, The Jam, Joy Division and so on ...

HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?

We all met in college. Apolline wanted to create a girls band and she found Gaëlle in a music school from Nevers. Then, an ad was put on the college walls for a female guitar player, at whom, Nicolas replied, thinking his high pitched voice and his lack of a beard would make it work. And he was right because we go all forward ever since.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ANYONE STARTING OUT?

If your goal is to become professionnal musicians, we would advise you to never give up (we're telling this to ourselves too). You have to go for it. You have to listen and receive every criticism you get even if sometimes it might be harsh. There will be hard times but working hard and staying motivated will certainly open lots of doors for you.

WHAT IS NEXT?

We are on a new series of music videos for the tracks of the album yet to come. Even more themed by cinematic universes given the fact it will all be telling a story. Like a TV show. And then, we're going to make a lot of live shows.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO ADD –

Come see us in England ! We just can't wait to get there, play our songs and meet the English crows. It's Rock music homeland !
