DEITRE INTERVIEW

DEITRE is a provocative new wave Glam Rock duo from NYC made up of Richie Bee and Peter Savad. The band use theatre, androgyny and arthouse to produce music that "feels less like another rock band, and more like an all-encompassing queer-empowered troupe of socially entwined, gender-blended performers." Themes of sexuality, love, faith, rage and self worth run through their work and it's always thought provoking and thrillingly entertaining.

We caught up with Deitre to find more about what makes the art pop rock outfit tick.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM/ PROJECT?

Our self titled debut album was released in 2017. We are currently writing & producing our next album due out Summer 2019.

WHAT INSPIRED ANY CENTRAL THEMES ON THE ALBUM?

A lot of the themes/topics came from deep rooted emotion that was unlocked and released after the diagnoses of my father’s cancer. There was a rebellious attitude towards life after that. I decided that life is too short for me not to do exactly what I want to do, and that anyone trying to prevent that from happening would be chopped from my life.

HOW LONG DID YOU SPEND RECORDING?

We finished our 11 song album in a year.

HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT THE SONGWRITING PROCESS?

We keep it very organic. Smoke a little bit of weed… play… write whatever comes out… then take a step back to see what the song is trying to say. Then you fine tune.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE TRACK FROM THE ALBUM?

They’re all so personal for me. When I take a look at the album, I just see my father.

WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES?

I would say the people in our lives are the biggest influences. The people that make up your story.

HOW DID YOU FORM THE BAND?

Peter, Andy, & Joey have known each other for years. I came into the picture around 4-5 years ago, but we were working on another project all together.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ANYONE STARTING OUT?

The most important thing is that YOU are happy with the work you are creating. The second you make something for somebody else, you become a slave to the music.

WHAT IS NEXT?

The release of or new music video “Jesse” & the first single off of our new EP.
