SKARLETT RIOT INTERVIEW

Rising stars of the British rock scene, Skarlett Riot, have been gaining some serious momentum in the last few years since the release of their second album Regenerate. Lead singer Skarlett took the time to answer some questions for us recently on the band's first headline tour.

HOW'S THE TOUR GOING?

Really well thank you, each show has been packed. Bournemouth has sold out and it’s our first time headlining there! We are so thankful to everyone for the support.

YOU'VE GOT SOME GREAT BANDS SUPPORTING YOU TOO, WHAT'S IT BEEN LIKE ON THE ROAD WITH THEM?

Yeah we made sure we picked a strong lineup of bands to bring out with us and they’re bands we personally love. They’ve smashed it every night!

HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT THE SONGWRITING PROCESS FOR REGENERATE?

We all worked together on the album, it normally starts with a small guitar riff, which will then get given to the lads to play around with. As it develops, I add my vocals and melody over the top when I’ve got a feel of where the track is going.

WHAT DOES REGENERATE MEAN FOR YOU PERSONALLY?

Regenerate to me, is about never giving in and finding the warrior within. If you fail, try again. We all learn from our mistakes and I believe everything happens for a reason. Turn the negatives into positives and pick yourself up even if it feels like the hardest thing to do. Regenerate was written to lift people's spirits and positivity. I want to help people, If I know our music has helped someone through a hard time then I’ve done my job and I’m happy :) .

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE TRACK FROM ANY OF YOUR ALBUMS?

Break and Warrior are my personal favourites, mainly because they’re so full of energy and real fun to sing live. They’re great songs to get the crowd involved in too!

WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO A COVER OF ONE OF YOUR SONGS AND WHICH ONE?

Papa Roach or Architects? Hmmm.. I think they’d do a killer version of Warrior.

WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES?

We all have different influences but mine range from Joan Jett, Heart to Papa Roach, In This Moment, Evanescence.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ANYONE STARTING OUT?

Make sure you have a band full of members wanting the same thing with the same goals, get some songs recorded so you can send them around to generate some interest. I think it’s more important to make sure you have some strong material first before gigging, from personal experience anyway.

ARE YOU WORKING ON ANY NEW MATERIAL AT THE MOMENT?

Yes, yes we are ;)

WHAT'S NEXT?

We’re starting to write again now we’ve rounded up such a successful cycle of ‘Regenerate’. In between writing and preparing a new release, we have a few festivals including Camden Rocks Festival And Redemption Festival and more to be announced.
